FOLLY is a landscape architecture practice serving the Greater San Francisco Bay Area of California and the Cotswolds area of England, with the capacity to provide remote design work. From schematics to highly detailed drawings, we offer different levels of service to reflect your project needs.
Schematic Design
Schematic design and master planning is the first phase of design and is essential in getting the best result for your project. It is during this phase where the vision goes from an idea to paper. Typically three different schematic designs are created. The focus is on the layout, spaces and style are defined but materials and details have not yet been determined. By the end of this phase, one final schematic design is generated.
Design Development
During the design development phase, the schematic design is fleshed out and enhanced - preliminary materials, finishes and colors are selected and preliminary design details are developed. Plant material is also refined and selected. The end goal of this phase is for an installer to give a preliminary cost estimate based on this set of plans.
Construction Documentation
Details are refined during construction documentation, this phase is where all of the information gathered during the schematic design and design development phase is put together into a contract document that will be used to complete construction. Based on the site and design, permit submission and approval may be required and usually occurs during this phase.
Construction Observation
With a contractor selected and construction underway, Construction Observation is a vital phase in the design process. When transitioning from paper to reality, changes and re-design are inevitable during construction, and designer involvement ensures adherence to the design intent of the plans. We also act in the homeowner’s best interest, providing oversight of the work being installed.
